Prof. Verner Ndudiri Orish Head of Department
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is a cornerstone of biomedical science, dedicated to advancing our understanding of microorganisms, immune responses and their profound impact on human health. Our work lies at the intersection of medicine, research and public health, providing critical knowledge and expertise essential for preventing, diagnosing and managing infectious and immune-mediated diseases. We explore the complex and dynamic interactions between pathogens and their human hosts, shedding light on the mechanisms of infection, the body’s immune defence systems and the factors that influence disease outcomes. Special emphasis is placed on studying emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and the development of vaccines and novel therapeutics, issues that are increasingly vital in the context of global health security.
