Structure of the Academic Units within the School of Medicine, UHAS

The School of Medicine at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) is organized into Pre-clinical and Clinical Departments, each playing a vital role in the training of future healthcare professionals. This structure ensures a comprehensive progression from foundational medical sciences to advanced clinical practice. 

 

1. Pre-clinical Departments 

The Pre-Clinical Unit provides students with essential foundational knowledge in the basic medical sciences. These Departments focus on building a strong scientific and theoretical background, equipping students with the principles needed to understand the mechanisms of health and disease before they transition into clinical training. 

The Pre-clinical Departments (Basic Medical Sciences) include: 

  • Anatomy  

  • Physiology  

  • Biochemistry  

  • Microbiology and Immunology  

  • Pathology  

  •  

2. Clinical Departments 

The Clinical Unit focuses on the application of medical knowledge and skills in real patient care settings. Students rotate through these departments during their clinical years, gaining hands-on experience in diagnosis, treatment and patient management across a wide range of medical specialties. 

The Clinical Departments include: 

  • Internal Medicine  

  • Surgery  

  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Child Health  

  • Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat (EENT)  

  • Community Health  

  • Anaesthesia & Critical Care  

  • Psychological Medicine & Mental Health
