A Message from the Head of Department
I am delighted and honoured to welcome you to the Department of Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat (EENT) at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, a hub where medical expertise, surgical precision and compassionate patient care converge to safeguard and restore the vital senses that connect us to the world. The ability to see, hear, speak and smell forms the foundation of human interaction and quality of life and it is our mission to protect and enhance these senses through world-class training, cutting-edge research and dedicated clinical service.
Our Department is uniquely positioned at the intersection of medicine and surgery, enabling our students to gain the breadth of diagnostic knowledge and the depth of surgical skill required to address a wide spectrum of sensory disorders. We offer a rigorous academic curriculum complimented by extensive clinical exposure in hospitals, community outreach clinics and specialist centres. This combination ensures that our graduates are well-prepared to identify conditions early, manage them effectively and prevent complications that can lead to irreversible sensory loss.
We place equal emphasis on research, recognising that innovation in EENT care is essential for meeting both local and global healthcare needs. Our faculty and students engage in studies on eye diseases, hearing impairments, sinus disorders, head and neck cancers and emerging surgical techniques, contributing to a growing body of evidence that shapes best practices. These research efforts not only enhance patient outcomes but also inform public health policies aimed at reducing the burden of sensory disabilities in Ghana and across the region.
Community engagement is central to our philosophy. Many sensory disorders can be prevented or mitigated through timely education, screening and intervention. Through outreach programmes, school screening initiatives and partnerships with public health organisations, we bring essential EENT services to underserved populations, ensuring that quality care is not limited by geography or resources.
In the clinic, the operating theatre and the research laboratory, our guiding principles remain the same: technical excellence, ethical integrity and patient-centred care. We train our students not only to be competent practitioners but also to be empathetic listeners and effective communicators, understanding that sensory health is deeply personal and profoundly impacts the human experience.
Whether you join us as a student eager to master EENT care, a researcher aiming to push the boundaries of knowledge, a clinician seeking specialised training, or a partner committed to improving public health, you are warmly welcomed. Together, we can advance sensory health, prevent avoidable disabilities and restore the precious connections that sight, hearing, smell and speech bring to our lives.
