Jerry Quaye is an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Medicine, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Volta Region. Prior to taking up appointment at UHAS, he had been a Biochemistry Lecturer at the Ridge School of Anaesthesia, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge-Accra, since 2016. Also, he had lectured Biochemistry at the School of Pharmacy, University of Ghana, Legon, part-time in 2017. In addition, he had been Research Assistant on some research studies at Community Health Department and School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon.
Education
He holds a BSC Degree in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Science, University of Ghana, Legon; the Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration- CEMBA (General Management) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi; and an MPhil in Medical Biochemistry, University of Ghana Medical School, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana. Legon. He holds a PhD Fellowship with the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), College of Basic Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon.
Prior to that he had received the College of Health Sciences Postgraduate Scholarship, University of Ghana, Legon; and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research PostDoc Masters Category Grant Award with sponsorship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, University of Ghana, Legon. In addition, he has attended several training workshops in the Life Sciences.
Work Experience
He did his national service with Unilever Ghana Limited, Tema Factory. He had worked at ACS-A Xerox Company as a data entry operator. He had a career as a Science Teacher at Modern Business College, a private school in Accra and went on to become the Headmaster of the school. Later whiles pursuing his Master’s Degree he had volunteered as a Pre-Lab demonstrator for the MB2 and GEMP Classes at the Department of Medical Biochemistry, University of Ghana Medical School, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon. In addition, he had been a Teaching Assistant for Lecturers handling Biostatistics and Research Methods Course for Masters Students at the Department of Community Health, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon.
He had been a Research Assistant to a number of Principal Investigators at the Department of Community Health and the School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana Legon. Also, he has been a Biochemistry Lecturer at the Ridge School of Anaesthesia, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge-Accra and at the School of Pharmacy, University of Ghana, Legon. Whiles pursing his postgraduate studies he had served on numerous committees and boards some of which are Advisory Board Member, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon, School Management Committee Member, School of Biomedical and Allied Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon, Research Board Member, College of Health of Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon, Member Committee on Needy, but Brilliant Students of the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon.
Science/Research output
He had researched on anti-gametocyte antibody levels and submicroscopic gametocytaemia in an area of seasonal malaria transmission during his postgraduate studies at University of Ghana, Legon. Currently for his PhD Fellowship with WACCBIP he is working on molecular characterization and phenotyping of novel unique recombinant forms of HIV in Ghana.
Also, he has been involved with some aspects of COVID-19 studies involving screening for IgG and IgM to SARS-CoV2 among healthcare workers and the Ghanaian public. Also, he handled the ethical approval processes for both COVID-19 and HIV studies being under taken by the Quashie Lab at WACCBIP.
