A Message from the Head of Department

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, the academic home of Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology at the School of Medicine. Our Department serves as the foundational pillar for medical and allied health education, providing students with the essential scientific knowledge and analytical skills that underpin clinical practice and biomedical research.

We pride ourselves in delivering high-quality teaching, fostering a culture of critical thinking and inspiring curiosity in the basic sciences. Through an integrated curriculum, our students gain a deep understanding of the human body’s structure, function and biochemical processes, preparing them to excel in advanced medical training and research.

Our faculty comprises dedicated academics and researchers committed to excellence in teaching, mentorship and scholarship. We utilise modern teaching methods, well-equipped laboratories and interactive learning environments to ensure our students receive a robust and engaging educational experience.

Beyond the classroom, the Department actively engages in collaborative research addressing health challenges relevant to Ghana, Africa and the wider global community. We also work closely with other departments within the School of Medicine and across the University to promote interdisciplinary learning and innovation.

Whether you are a prospective student, a collaborator, or a visitor, we invite you to explore the exciting opportunities within our Department. Together, we aim to nurture the next generation of medical professionals, scientists and leaders who will contribute meaningfully to healthcare and biomedical advancement.
