He had his medical education in Higher Institute of Medical Sciences, Havana, Cuba; and later pursued a Master of Science in Emergency Medical Care in Higher Institute of Medical Sciences. Santa Clara. Cuba.
Work experience
He practiced as a doctor (Family Medicine) in rural Cuba for five years. He was HoD of the coordinating center of the National Emergency, former coordinator and head of training of the Cuban National Ambulance. He also worked in Maracaibo Teaching Hospital. Venezuela as Intensivist for two years (international mission). He was in Calisto Garcia Teaching Hospital. Havana,Cuba as a resident in Intensive and Emergency Medical Care for three years. He also headed of the ICU of the National Teaching Hospital, Havana, Cuba, and an adjunct senior lecturer in Higher Institute of Medical Sciences,Havana,Cuba for 8 years, during this period he was the head of the Society of Intensive and Emergency Medical Care in Havana for two years. He was in the ICU of the 37 Military Hospital, Ghana as member of the Cuban Medical Brigade for two years. He worked in the ICU in the Tamale teaching Hospital for two years.
Science/Research output
Dr. Alcina’s area of research is critical illness in adult and critical maternal diseases. He has over 5 publications in international journals. He has several chapters in book about Critical Care.
