Dr. Gifty Dufie Ampofo is currently a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Community Health Department of the School of Medicine in UHAS. She was appointed as a Lecturer in January 2017. She has completed her post-doctoral fellowship training with the Malaria Research Capacity Development (MARCAD) Consortium and previously with the Malaria Capacity Development Consortium (MCDC), School of Public Health, KNUST.
Education
She had her medical education at the University of Ghana Medical School, Legon, Ghana and followed this with a Masters’ and a PhD in Public Health at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.
Work Experience
She worked with the Ghana Health Service for 12 years as a medical doctor in the Ashanti Region. During this time she headed various health facilities, especially in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality. In one of these facilities, she was involved with the piloting of the then District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme which has led to a nationwide health insurance scheme. She also participated in a number of research activities in the Municipality acting as the Projects Coordinator of the Centre for Global Health research, Ghana at Juaben.
Science/Research output
Her interest has been in maternal and child health issues and health systems research. She has concentrated mainly in malaria and anaemia in pregnancy and in children under five. She has contributed to a number of publications in these fields and has served as a peer reviewer of a couple of scientific journals.
