Dr. Fernando Miguel Almaguer Acevedo is a Lecturer and Head of Physician Assistantship Program, School of Medicine, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho. He joined UHAS in 2015.
Prior to this, he was a Lecturer at the Medical Sciences University in Las Tunas, Cuba and the Head of Maxillofacial Department at Dr E. Guevara Teaching Hospital. He was also a Coordinator of the National Program of Prevention and Precocious Detection of Oral Cancer in Las Tunas Province, Cuba.
Education
Dr. Fernando Acevedo graduated as a Doctor in Dentistry at the Dr. Zoilo E. Marinello Medical Sciences University, Las Tunas, Cuba in 2000. He became a Specialist in Maxillofacial Surgery in 2004. He holds a Master of Science in Dentistry Emergencies. He also has a diploma in Dental Implantology.
Work Experience
He practiced as a General Dentist for one year in a rural area in Granma Province, Cuba until he started to specialize in Maxillofacial surgery. As Maxillofacial Surgeon, he worked for six year at Dr E. Guevara Teaching Hospital in Las Tunas, Cuba. He was also a Lecturer at Dr Zoilo E. Marinello Medical Sciences University. He acted as Co-ordinator of the Programme of Prevention and Precocious Detection of Oral Cancer. Dr. Acevedo worked as a Maxillofacial Surgeon for two years at 37 Military Hospital in Accra as part of the Cuban Medical Brigade. Later he headed the Maxillofacial Department at Dr E. Guevara teaching hospital, Las Tunas, Cuba.
Science /Research Interests
Dr. Fernando Miguel Almaguer Acevedo’s area of research is Oral Cancer Epidemiology. He carried out a research to evaluate the efficacy of the National Program of Prevention of Oral Cancer in Cuba. . He also led a research about Ludwig’s angina. Dr Fernando Miguel Almaguer Acevedo is currently working in a research about Maxillofacial Infections at the Ho Teaching Hospital. He has three publications.
