Dr. Anthony Kwame Dah is a lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of School of Medicine. He is an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist in the Volta Regional Hospital, the Teaching Hospital of University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). He is a member of Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Education
Dr. Dah had his basic medical education at the School of Medicine at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (Bachelor of Science, Humam Biology and M.B.Ch.B), and residency trainings in General Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi (MGCS). He had a training in Gynaecological Laparoscopy/Hysteroscopy and GIT Endoscopy at MSSI – Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and obtained a certificate. He also had certificate in Ultrasonography in Obstetrics/Gynaecology including Fetal Anomaly, Abdomen, Breast and Small parts at Precision Healthcare, Accra.
Work Experience
Dr. Dah has over fifteen (15) years’ experience in clinical practice in Ghana. He had his houseman-ship at KATH. He was appointed a Medical Officer and promoted to the grade of Senior Medical Officer at KATH. He later joined Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of KATH as a resident. He had one year district rotation at Sunyani Regional Hospital, at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. After his membership at GCPS, he joined Ghana Health Services (GHS) and worked at Ashanti Mampong Municipal Hospital as the Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and Head of Obstetrics/Gynaecology Unit for two years. He was, from there, seconded to join UHAS as one of the foundation members. He is currently a lecturer at the School of Medicine and also works as an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist at the Volta Regional Hospital. He had more than 5 years experienced in gynaecological laparoscopy/hysteroscopy and 7 years in ultrasonography.
Research Experience and Interests
He was the Ghana National Coordinator and member of International Advisory Committee (IAC) to the study “Tranexamic acid for the treatment of postpartum haemorrhage: An international, randomized, double blind placebo controlled trial, the outcome of which has been recommended by World Health Organization (WHO) as part of first line management of postpartum haemorrhage currently.
He is very passionate about improving pregnancy success rates from infertility treatment, especially from the expensive assisted reproductive technology or In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) which is considered very expensive in this part of the world. His research interests include minimally invasive procedures in gynaecology and infertility including assisted reproduction technology.
