Professor Emmanuel Senanu Komla Morhe is an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of School of Medicine. He is consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the Volta Regional Hospital, the teaching hospital of University of Health and Allied Sciences. He is a Fellow of West African College of Surgeons and the Ghana College of Surgeons.
Education
He had basic medical education in University of Ghana Medical School (MBChB, 1992), and residency and fellowship trainings in general obstetrics and gynaecology in the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi (FWACS, 2006). He had sub-specialist fellowship training in family planning and reproductive health in the International Family Planning Fellowship Programme and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (FGCS, 2011). He has Masters in Public Health (MPH) in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi and Professional Diploma in Project Design and Management (DPDM) from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK.
Work Experience
He has over 25 years experience in clinical practice in Ghana. After houseman-ship in the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital he served the Christian Health Association of Ghana as a general medical practitioner in the Holy Family Hospital, Nkawkaw for five years. He proceeded to KATH where he served as a resident, senior specialist and consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. He rose to become the head of the Family Planning and Reproductive Health Centre of the hospital and a lecturer in the School of Medical Sciences of KNUST. He is a Master Trainer in family planning and reproductive health in Ghana and has worked with the Ghana Health Service and a number of non-profit organizations to improve access to reproductive health care in Ghana, notably Engender Health and America College of Nurse Midwives. He has over the years provided mentorship to local and international fellows, residents and students.
Research Interests
He is very passionate about prevention of maternal and child morbidity and mortality associated with unsafe abortion. His research interests include sexual and reproductive health including family planning, abortion care, sexually transmitted infections and optimizing general obstetrics and gynaecological care to improve quality of life of women.
