Dr. Emily Boakye-Yiadom is a specialist laboratory physician with the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medicine and a member of the Ghana College of Physicians.
Education
She obtained her MBChB from the School of Medical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in 2009 and had her residency in Laboratory Medicine with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra from 2014 to 2017 after which she was awarded membership in Laboratory Medicine (Microbiology).
Work experience
Dr. Boakye-Yiadom has over 8 years of clinical practice in Ghana starting with her 2-year houseman-ship at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital from 2009 to 2011. Being passionate about rural health, she joined the Christian Health Association of Ghana in 2011 and served at the St. Martin de Porres Hospital in the Ellembele District of the Western Region for 3 years. Her experience with infectious diseases during this period stirred up an interest in medical microbiology hence her choice of laboratory medicine during her residency at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital from 2014 to 2017.
Research Interests
Being passionate about patient safety, Dr. Boakye-Yiadom is developing a research career on the effective diagnosis and management of healthcare-associated infections in Ghana especially in the area of antimicrobial resistance which is a global threat to effective treatment of infections.
